Out of all the late 90's/early 00's rock songs to translate into an electro banger, the classic novelty track "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus was probably the best choice to catch everyone off guard, even after Girls Aloud covered the song. Patric McFly warps the track beyond belief in the original "Teenage Dirthouse", but DJs from Mars chop and screw it to hell and back, vacillating between the tempo of the original and the more floor-friendly electro version. Additional mixes by Bodybangers and Topmodelz give the track life on a couple different floors but hopefully this one will be pleasantly confusing clubgoers for a while to come.

Channeling early 90's house like La Bouche and C&C Music Factory, Roisin Murphy makes a bold statement for 2010. It was only a matter of time before the obsession with 80's music led to the re-discovery of music from the 90's. Alphabeat brought it back with "The Spell" and now Roisin tackles it with "Momma's Place". Sometimes it is hard to see past the uber-quirky singer of "Ramalama" and her work with Moloko, but despite her varied forays into musical oddity, she's got a powerful voice that suits electronic music, and it's good to see her use it so well. It's interesting to note that such an aggressive retro dance track is dedicated to her newborn daughter. The single is slated for release in the UK on January 18th, along with a few mixes that will likely find "Momma's Place" on hipster playlists everywhere.

Like a blast from the past, Sweden's Star Pilots launched one of the best 80's cover songs in the dance world. The thing is, "In the Heat of the Night" is an original track by the group. What they have succeeded at was recreating the harmonic and feelgood vibes of classic 80's tracks and melded them with modern dance production for a faux-nostalgic track that not only beckons you to return to the 80's, but is also reminiscent of early 2000's filter house frenzy. Topping the entire production off is a typical European-styled dance video, complete with scantily-clad air traffic directors (wait, didn't we see this in Cabin Crew's "Star To Fall" video?). Mixes by WAWA, Digital Dog, Dave Armstrong and Hyperzone give the track wide appeal for the dancefloor while retaining that sense of nostalgia.

As the "theme" of 500 Days of Summer, "Sweet Disposition" is an emotional and thriving indie rock track with heart. It is compelling and driving, rather hard to ignore while you're listening to it, actually. That is an achievement on its own, but The Temper Trap have fallen into a wonderful trend for the dance community. As with prior emotional rock songs like "Show Me What You're Looking For" by Carolina Liar, "Sweet Disposition" has been remixed. Unlike Carolina Liar, there are a bevy of remixes for "Sweet Disposition", likely including one you'll enjoy. One of the standouts, for it's big room sound and tender treatment of the vocals, is Axwell & Dirty South's mix. Search out your favorite though, as there is a selection to choose from including Morgan Page and Cagedbaby.
