Song of the Day: Vinyl Life vs Kraftwerk - "Good Life (It's More Fun To Compute)"

Thursday July 9, 2009
If you like it old skool, you will have made love the analog flavor of Vinyl Life. Who else would release their latest project on vinyl and cassette BEFORE CD and digital. If you dug "Innovation" and "Future Beat," this new mashup with the classic Kraftwerk track will be right up your alley. The rap vocals are NSFW but its a free download, so check it out below.

Song of the Day: Buraka Som Sistema - "IC19"

Wednesday July 8, 2009
Imagine MIA mixing her aggressive vocal stylings with retro rave beats and you got an idea of what Buraka Som Sistema. The downbeat intro is just a teaser for the madness that kicks in. The heavy beats give way for some old skool fun that will make you want to break out the glowsticks and listen to SL2 records! "IC19" is the follow up to "Sound of Kuduro" which buzzed all over British dancehall friendly floors earlier this year. Watch out for the release of "IC19" on July 20th and for their bootleg remix of Lykke Li’s "Dance Dance Dance" which is gaining buzz as well.

Song of the Day: Burns - "Turbo"

Tuesday July 7, 2009
Realizing that he was born on Halloween might put Burns' aggressive and intense electro techno tracks in perspective. The Glasgow-born musician has melded electro, glitch, sound effects, dropouts and noises to create a track that is both retro and futuristic. Sampling the Breakin movies for the video is a brilliant move. Watch out for his upcoming cd as well as his sick remixes of Gossip, Passion Pit and Empire of the Sun.

Song of the Day: Freeland - "Do Ya"

Monday July 6, 2009
It takes real guts to totally change your sound and do something completely different. Adam Freeland is best known as a dj/producer in the breaks world and for his label Marine Parade (home to Alex Metric and launchpad for Evil Nine.) Under the name Freeland, he has created a new electronic rock sound that is more guitar and drum based with little of the breaks sound that he is known for. It seems to have more in common with the progressive rock sound of Rush than anything he has previously released. The recently released CD Cope features collaborations members of Motley Crue, The Pixies, and Devo. It is definitely a CD worth checking out.

Song of the Day: Michael Canitrot - "Desire"

Friday July 3, 2009
Listening to his debut single "Desire" and reading about DJ/Producer Michael Canitrot, it appears to be the making of another superstar French DJ in the David Guetta mold. Let's count the similarities. Gorgeous male model looks, check (work with Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, and Prada - bonus point.) Co-produced tracks with underground producers, check - Hardsoul "Feel the Spirit." Mixed CD on credible independent dance label, check - Mezzanine de l'Alcazar Volume 5 on Defected. Launch of his own successful party series, check - "So, Happy in Paris." Record label, check - Aime Music. Uplifting house track with electro undertones and hit potential, check - "Desire." Remixes by excellent producers, check - Richard Earnshaw, Syke'n'Sugarstarr, Tuccillo, , Mitch LJ & Mark Alston. Check out "Desire" and hear the next big French DJ on the rise.

Song of the Day: Atom - "Satellite"

Thursday July 2, 2009
In these uncertain times, the children have banded together to contact outerspace for help. That's the basic idea of this new electronic/altpop track from Atom. The vibe is similar to Bob Sinclar's "World Hold On." In its original version "Satellite" doesn't scream dancefloor, but remixes by Micro, Kostas K & Drago, Christian Cambas and Dave Aude definitely pump it up for the clubs.

Song of the Day: Pocho featuring Sandy Chambers - "Brighter"

Wednesday July 1, 2009
Marco Soncini, the producer of pop dance classics "Tu Es Fouto" (by In-Grid) and "2 Times" (by Ann Lee), is back with a new name, Poncho, and a hot new electropop track "Brighter." The track starts with keyboard stabs that build with a few loops and then explode into powerful electropop beats. Remixes by HeavyGrinder, Fedo Mora & Camurri and Favretto range from trancey to progressive to harder pounding electro. You might recognize the voice of Sandy Chambers from her work with 90s europop acts Corona, JK and Netwerk as well as her recent hit with the Benassi Brothers "Illusion."

Song of the Day: Noisettes - "Don't Upset the Rhythm"

Tuesday June 30, 2009
"Don't Upset the Rhythm" might sound really familiar to you as it was used in a Mazda commercial and hit #2 in the UK pop charts. Their electronic/rock/hybrid sound recalls Goldfrapp, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Garbage with a little taste of Eartha Kitt. The "Go Baby Go Baby Go" chant is instantly catchy and makes the track pretty much unforgettable. The smokey t video features singer Shingai Shoniwa channeling her inner Grace Jones. With remixes by Dave Aude and Soul Seekerz, watch for this one to explode on US dancefloors.
