Rather than do a song of the day, here is a concert/band of the day - My Dear Disco. Traveling the country on the Michigan Bailout tour, they stopped through Nashville last night and rocked the venue. Even though the crowd wasn't massive, the septet emitted the energy of a stadium show tempered with the comedic quirkiness that works so well for their electronic beats. How else to explain the Devo-esque choreography, dancing panda and the drummer's word-for-word perfect rap solo on Will Smith's "Wild Wild West." I have previously described them as a cross between Cut Copy and Gossip, but with the way My Dear Disco wears their 80s influences on their sleeves, let's throw in Daft Punk as well.
"White Lies" was a definite highlight of the show, not only a standout on their album but a song that translates perfectly to a live performance. Closing the show with their infectious "Move Your Feet" as a tribute to Michael Jackson was a genius move. Check out our
review of their DanceThink LP and thier website for tour dates. You do not want to miss My Dear Disco if they come to your city.
