Song of the Day: La Roux - "Quicksand"

From DJ Ron Slomowicz, About.com GuideApril 29, 2009

Follow me on:

New wave inspired electropop duo La Roux debut in the US with "Quicksand," a retro-flavored jam showcasing the unique vocal stylings of singer Elly (Eleanor Jackson.) The band is named after her with La Roux meaning the red-haired girl in French - and that kind of fire is definitely evident in her emotional bordering on screeching vocals. Their follow-up single "In For The Kill" has already reached number two in the UK and I have a sneaking suspicion that their success will be limited to European audiences. Don't get me wrong, the hipster/scenester/bloghouse crowds will be on top of La Roux as it goes perfectly with the nudisco sound that is so au currant. However, their US label Cherrytree completely dropped the ball on breaking Robyn in the US, how do they expect to cross over La Roux? Maybe get them as the opening act on the Lady Gaga tour? For now, just enjoy "Quicksand" and expect it to pop up in an episode of your favorite tv show.

What a lame attempt at putting it out there. What a lame website, oh wait, how the f* did I get on about.com? I always look up when I read such sad writing and see “about.com” and slap my forehead! I wish I could block this site forever. It never has anything of worth.
