One interesting aspect of electronica and dance music is that just about any kind of music can be remixed to fit the genre. Over the years, I've heard opera, gospel, heavy metal and country sounds remixed. So when I heard about Rare Elements, a cd which pairs instrumentalists from around the world with dance producers, I was quite intrigued. This current issue teams up Turkish flautist Omar Fark Tekbilek with the likes of Amon Tobin, Albert Castillo, Joe Claussell and Tommie Sunshine. Whereas Tommie is known more for more aggressive electro and rock remixes, he approached "Yalel" with a bit of respect - toughening up the beats but not overpowering the music with too much distortion or effects. His remix is a great example of how two strangers from different musical backgrounds can come together and create something special.
