Proving that the Canadian electropop scene isn't just for the boys (Chromeo, Junior Boys), singer/songwriter Lights has built a following through myspace for her unique sound. Imagine Vanessa Carlton channeling Bjork by ways of Owl City and you've got the basic idea. The lush and dreamy "Saviour" is a great introduction for the keytar playing Lights who makes "intergalactic" music (which she defines as "sounds that seem like they could have been plucked from Saturn's rings or a meteor belt, equal parts fantastical/epic/beautiful/emotional." That description works for me. The video is a fantasy piece combining live action and planetary travel cartoons. Lights' fresh approach to electropop is so breathtakingly beautiful that it makes me almost want to forgive Canada for spawning Avril. Almost.
