"Dog Days Are Over" is the type of track that music snobs drool over. It is full of drums and a vibe that gets you dancing, but is raw and vulnerable enough that it can be nothing like mainstream pop and yet commercially poppy at the same time. It is pure, unadulterated fun, as evidenced by just how much of it they seem to be having in the video. And what was the inspiration for this video anyway? The original Star Trek? Not that we mind, it's visually stunning and a perfect accompaniment for the sonically stunning track that Florence created. But why should you care? "Dog Days Are Over" has been translated for the clubs with such transformation that it is almost hard to reconcile the original with a remixed version. Steve Pitron and Max Sanna give the hipsters something to sing to when they go out dancing with a surprisingly solid remix that lifts Florence's voice even higher than she managed herself. And really, who doesn't love when mixers take songs out of their original element and add something new and unexpected? Enjoy it.
