This is nothing like the Scissor Sisters you discovered in 2004. This isn't even like the Scissor Sisters that made a slight comeback in 2006. "Fire With Fire" is the lead single of the band's forthcoming third studio album, Night Work. It isn't punky, spunky, or wry. There isn't a coy sexuality that oozes from the beats and guitars. The Scissor Sisters that you knew? They're different now. The lead single sounds like Coldplay produced by Stuart Price (who did, in fact, produce "Fire With Fire") which is a level of epic I doubt many people have truly contemplated. The song overall is an excellent statement for the band, but less so for the band's fans. "Fire With Fire" however should garner the group a new following who can stand behind this amalgamated sound without feeling left behind by the groups' more polished persona. A grouping with Stuart Price means remixes can't be far behind, and for those chomping at the bit to have Jake Shears singing from their club speakers can turn to Digital Dog and Peter Rauhofer. Digital Dog amp down their typical sound for a smoother mix that incorporates many elements of the original while layering them over an insistent dance beat. Rauhofer strayed from the circuit anthems that made his name and embraced a more melodic and underground Euro style that is a refreshing change for him. Either should light up the floor.
