The current trend of hip hop/r&b artists working with electronic producers harkens back to the late 80s/early 90s sound of miami bass. The genre blended the raps of hip hop with the vibes of electro funk and was big both in clubs and on the radio. A big track of the era was "Boom, I Got Your Boyfriend" in which the fiesty MC Luscious bragged about her taking a man based on her looks and his desires over beats inspired by Kyper's "Tic Tac Toe." The track was big in clubs (and even bigger among drag queens.) Fast forward to 2011 and Courtney Vaughn has teamed with Miss Champaign for an updated version with new verses and update beats while keeping the chorus as inspiration. The vocals hit the target though the production doesn't really do what I would expect. The original and remixes, though well produced, almost sound too clean with progressive influences. If there was ever vocal screaming for a filthy electro or gritty dubstep, this would be it. Luckily the acappella is available and I imagine there will be quite a few bootlegs floating around - I am betting it will sound great on top of "Let the Bass Kick."
