From Jason Shawhan, for About.com

11 Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill (Infusion Dub) (White Label)
Another example of the trend of taking one vocal line from a recognizable song (Dave Armstrong's "Make Your Move" or, as I call it, The Pointer Sisters' "Dare Me '03," A Small Phat One's MJ-sampling "Just Can't Stop") and building a new track around it. I love Infusion's white labels, and this builds some serious drama on a dancefloor. Love the chord progressions, love the structure, wish there were more dancefloor rendezvous with Kate Bush.

12 Coldplay - Clocks (Royksopp's Trembling Heart Mix) (Capitol-US)
It sounds more like a Royksopp track now, but that's kind of cool. Full vocals but a different sensibility, and I'm powerless. As good as Royksopp's Mix of "Please Stay" by Mekon.

13 Dutch featuring Crystal Waters - My Time (Murano Mix) (Effin-US)
That hook in this song, the guitarish thing that sounds like the Beverly Hills 90210 guitar stab mixed with Kim Carnes' "Crazy in the Night" orchestra hits… that hook is killer. Sadly, the only mix of this track that had energy and dynamics to match was Steve Murano's, and much gratitude is due him for it. How delightful to have Crystal back on top with a killer single.

14 Britney Spears & Madonna - Me Against The Music (Gabriel & Dresden Mix & Dub) (Jive-US)
I lean a little bit more to the dub, but even the vocal mix manages to make the balancing act of Britney and Madonna's duet enthralling. The surface may look simple, but these synth sequences have an undertow that will kick your ass. I'd love to see G&D tackle a Madonna track by themselves…

15 Kristine W - I'll Be Your Light (Mac Quayle & Jack D. Eliot Mix) (Tommy Boy-US)
Maybe because it reminds me of the Razor & Guido Mix of Anggun's "Snow on the Sahara," but mostly because Quayle and Eliot let La W's voice reign amongst all their gorgeous sequences. Triumphantly energetic and defiant, and it vibes beautifully.

16 Blank & Jones featuring Robert Smith - A Forest (Radikal-US)
I can't believe they actually got Robert Smith to do the vocals, but Gawd bless Blank & Jones for it, because this is easily the best dance cover of a song in a LONG time. Aggressive and melodic, and if you close your eyes, it's like the nineties just sort of drift away.

17 Yoko Ono - Walking on Thin Ice (Pet Shop Boys Mixes) (Mind Train-US)
Neil and Chris bring out the old school analog sounds on this marvelous effort. Drum machine cowbell syncopation gets me every time. While at heart I still prefer Bruce Forest's mix of Fuzzbox's cover of this track from '89, I still love the fact that Yoko got some love from the dance community. By the way, when do we get to hear Dezrok's Mix of "Approximately Infinite Universe?"

18 Outkast - Ghettomusick (Benny Benassi Mix) (Arista-Germany)
Ah the inescapable bass frequencies of Benny Benassi and company. I've dug his sounds since the awesome 1994 "Ride on Time" mixes he and Davide Riva did for Black Box, and this speed garage mutation works best with the fierce flows from Big Boi and Andre 3000.

19 Ride Committee featuring Roxy - Curtains for You (Floppy Sounds Vocal) (Wave Music-US)
Ah, Roxy. The inimitable voice behind such drag classics as "Love to do it," "Accident," "The Art of Sampling," "get Huh," and "Peanut Butter and Chocolate." Now, in a tribute to Moi Renee, Roxy's voice is let loose on some tuff synths courtesy of Floppy Sounds and trances the shit out of the place. Progressive house doesn't get sicker or more satisfying than this.

20 Together - Call on Me (Daft Mafia Mix) (Roule-France)
Thomas Bangalter and DJ Falcon take the formula for last year's anthem "So Much Love To Give" and tweak it a little, taking a bit from Steve Winwood's "Valerie" and pounding it into disco heaven. Tracks this good don't need your respect.
