Mixes That Matter - August

From Paul Grace, for About.com

ARTIST - Title (Remixer)

WIDELIFE featuring SIMONE DENNY - Haven't I Cried Enough - Homegrown talent alert! For years, Toronto's Simone Denny was the voice behind Chris Sheppard's Love, Inc. Finally out on her own, this track highlights her truly amazing talent. Produced by the master remix duo Widelife (also from Toronto), this track is set to blow up big time. Massive!

PROSPECT PARK featuring LINDA CLIFFORD - Spinnin' - Talk about pedigree. One of the original divas of disco, Ms Clifford has been singing up a storm for over 2 decades (remember 1978's "Runaway Love"?). This latest track is produced by Dave Lee (aka Joey Negro) and is a perfect example of the UK Garage scene. Filtered house at it's best!

DUTCH featuring CRYSTAL WATERS - My Time (The Scumfrog) - This track will drive you nuts! One listen and the melody is stuck in your head and you can't get it out. Driving and hypnotic.

VENUS HUM - Soul Sloshing (Shanghai Surprise) - Imagine Cooler Kids or Bjork without the accent and you get an idea of what this track sounds like. The synth-laden mix reminds me of the stuff Motiv8 did in the late 90's...Almighty with muscle. Pop dance gem.

HOUSEKEEPERZ featuring CEEVOX - Wurkin' - The voice behind "My Imagination" is back with a new floor-filler. Driving synths and percussion over Ceevox' vocals make for a circuit monster. Pumpin'!

MARIAH CAREY - Bringin' On The Heartbreak (Mike Rizzo/Junior Vasquez) - Ok. The image is a little too trailer-trash for my taste but the girl can sing! And this track is a good example...sweet and airy. Rizzo's mix is more synthy and driving while Junior's mix showcases the vocals better. Both are brilliant.

SEAL - Get It Together (Peter Rauhofer/Bill Hamel) Someone we haven't heard from in quite a while, Seal's new album is due out September 9 and this is the lead off single. His unique voice and poignant message are perfectly set off by Peter Rauhofer's retro disco mix and Bill Hamel's prettier, trancier mix.

VIVIAN GREEN - Fanatic (Junior Vasquez) - Following up on the massive success of "Emotional Rollercoaster", Ms Green delivers another vocal masterwork. And, as usual, Junior turns in a flawless mix full of drama and drive.

KOSHEEN - All In My Head (Decoder & Substance/Planet Funk) - From the folks who brought you "Hide U", this new track is trippy and beautiful. With a subtle big-beat feel and bubbly synths, it wraps you up in it's mood and you just float away.

STING - Send Your Love (Calderone & Quayle/Dave Aude) - Athough not as catchy as "Desert Rose", this new track has many of the same elements and the feel is similar. And every now and then it reminds me of "Fly Like An Eagle" by Steve Miller. I can't wait for the mash-up.
