Mixes that Matter - December 2003 (Part 2)

From Paul Grace, for About.com

ARTIST - Title (Remixer)

NELLY FURTADO - Powerless (Junior Vasquez/Widelife) - Ms Furtado is back with a new album and new club mixes. Junior performs his usaul magic but adds a slight world beat feeling. The usually reliable Widelife make a big mistake by burying the vocals in an otherwise brilliant mix.

MIDNIGHT SOCIETY featuring KIERAN - Drum Drama (Curtis Atchison) - Tribal monster alert! Intense and driving. Makes me moist. 'Nuff said.

INAYA DAY - Keep Pushin' (ATFC/Danny Tsettos/Mousse T/Sharam Jay) - Singer/songwriter Inaya Day has been behind some pretty big records...MOUSSE T's "Horny, MIKE CRUZ's "Movin' Up" & "Medicine" and "Hold Your Head Up High" produced by Boris Dlugosch. Her 1996 hit "Keep Pushin'" (which she wrote) gets the remix update this time. The ATFC mix is an over 13 minute opus full of peaks and breakdowns in a filtered house style. The Danny Tsettos mix is more for the circuit crowd. Hands-in-the-air madness!

BEYONCE - Me, Myself & I (Junior Vasquez) - Junior does it again. Another circuit anthem. If you liked his mix of Mary J Blige's "Your Child", you're gonna love this. Instant classic.

ELTON JOHN - Are You Ready For Love (Peter Rauhofer/Linas Loves) - Originally released in 1979, Rauhofer turns this classic into a circuit powerplay. Hard and driving. The Linas Loves Remix sounds like something Giorgio Moroder would have done in the 80's. Very retro-Euro.

GIANGI CAPPAI presents MOTIBUS - Music (Alma Matris) - Another circuit monster in the making. Hard beats and syncopated synth work make this track rock. Dark and intense.

MURK - Time (Peter Rauhofer) - Straight ahead production with a vocal hook catchier than an English football song.

LISA MILLETT - It's Alright (Jamie Lewis) - Sweet little soulful house number from Switzerland. Switzerland? Kinda reminds me of the 1980 classic from ROD "Shake It Up (Do The Boogaloo)". Smooth and sexy.

MICHELLE BRANCH - Breathe (Chris Cox) - Keeping the classic Thunderpuss sound alive, Chris Cox pumps out another floor-filler. Catchy and energetic, this mix does the business.

PEACE DIVISION - What Is This Sound (Superchumbo) - Lo-fi craziness. Raw percussion, buzzy synths and spacey vocals create a rough and unsettling atmosphere. You'll either love it or hate it.
