When he is not writing or working on some production, he is fighting crime thanks to the Crime Stoppers boards he serves on. "What did you think - I run around in tights and look for crime to fight? Well, we just don't talk about that anymore," says Smith with tongue firmly planted in cheek. As for his love of dance music, it has always been there. "I like almost every genre of music, save most country and christian," adds Smith. "Yes that means I have a small, but hopefully respectable collection of music from other countries and by artists most of you have probably never heard of. In fact, I was first exposed to international dance music during my undergrad days at the University of Kansas. I lived in the international residence hall on campus and learned quickly that there are many types and styles of music out there - including dance music. The trouble is finding them, followed by getting your hands on them."
While a quest for a graduate degree brought him to Middle Tennessee State University, the attitude of the area kept him here after he got his masters. "If you think about it, Nashville is nothing but a diverse college town with music at the center of it," says Smith. "The key now is bringing a greater level of music diversity to Music City, U.S.A.! After all, diversity is one of the keys to a good life and a great record collection."
