RS: What was the first record you ever bought?
BK: I think it was Street Sounds Electro 1.
RS: How do you choose the songs for your mixed compilations?
BK: Usually the big tunes of the moment with a few classics thrown in for good measure.
RS: What do you listen to when you are not spinning?
BK: I like the Sugababes. I also listen to a lot of talk radio.
RS: What do you think of the current state of dance music - artists, music, and remixers?
BK: Its pretty good at the moment across the board. On our scene, I haven't seen any new artists that have grabbed my attention lately and have found myself looking at other genres for interesting material to play. Musicwise, I'm enjoying the merging of the different styles of harder music, for example its much more acceptable for me to play techno, house, and trance all in one set.
RS: Where do you see club music going in the next 3-4 years?
BK: Hopefully the genres will be less pigeonholed and people will be able to play and produce a broader spectrum of material.
RS: How has the rise of underground dance culture affected the music?
BK: Often what is big in the underground will evolve into a form of itself that is more acceptable in mainstream culture.
RS: What is your opinion on the seemingly combative relationship between the internet and dance music?
BK: It's good and bad. It spreads the music worldwide, which is great, but free downloads, if not regulated, will kill the industry. As much as people involved in dance do it because they have a passion for it, companies not making money will no longer be able to support the music.
RS: What's coming next?
BK: Going to start work on a solo artist album.
RS: Any plans to come to the US to play some dates?
BK: I should be in San Francisco in February 2004.
RS: What is your vision of the future of the music in the UK / world?
BK: That people will become more open-minded to different styles. Not always having separate clubs for different music. I think that's why I enjoy festivals because of the variety.
RS: One last question - what are your biggest records right now in the clubs?
BK: Dk 'Murder Was the Bass"
Mario Picotto 'New Time New Place'
