Emm: You guys don't seem lazy to me. I mean you've got remix after remix after remix coming out.
Agent K:Oh yes, that's all good. All the music is easy to make; that's not a problem. It's the other side, the business side and all the rubbish you have deal with, and the politics. Making the music is not the problem. We could do that all day long. But it's just all the other stuff that makes it difficult. We enjoy making music, but we want to get paid too. It is coming I know, but we just have to work hard.
Emm: Can you tell me how the Bugz crew makes a song? I mean, how is it that you all combine all your different influences and produce music as well as you do?
Agent K:That would be telling really. I cannot comment on that at all. That's one of them little things you have to keep. I would share it in time. That's the only secret that is any secret. I gave out a list of all the keyboards that I used; I'll do that, but even then, there's some little special gems that I've got. But when it comes to writing, you just have to keep that kind of secret. It is very good, it is good the way that it all works.
Emm: With the U.S. release of Feed the Cat, do you think that record has cross-over potential?
Agent K:I really do not know. I would love to think that people would hear it and start freaking out because they love it. It is a kind of American-sounding album in a way.
Emm: To me, it's just a great jazz album. Obviously it has elements of soul and funk and R&B, and all the other things you talked about. I could see some of the jazz-heads getting into it, and hopefully they will. Where does the album name come from, "Feed the Cat"?
Agent K:Well, I am known for being like a cat playing on the tiles, a bit of cheeky boy, but not any more because now I'm a married man now. So I'm chilled out. "Feed the Cat" basically means show me the money and I will show all I've got, everything. This first album just a little tease.
Emm: "Feed the Cat"--a little tease? So it actually gets better? "Feed the Cat" is brilliant.
Agent K: Most definitely. That's just a tease, I'd like to use a bit more live new musicians and live flavor as well. So it will be a lot better with live horns and live strings and a harp, stuff like that, with really heavy production.
Emm: Did you use any live instrumentation on the "Feed the Cat" album?
Agent K: Just a little you know, just a little bit of guitar, little bits. I didn't really use that much at all, it was just mainly keyboards.
Emm: How long did it take you to finish the album?
Agent K: All the music, was written in about two-three months. All the mixing and everything, and all the patching all together took about six-seven months.
Emm: Did you work with the guys from Bugz in the Attic for the mixing and production, or did you bring in some other people to do that kind of stuff.
Agent K:Yes, it was all in the Bugz in the Attic, or the Bugz in the Attic crew had different people working on it, just putting their hands into the mix.
