Ron: How was his set?
Irene: His set was awesome, he was playing some stuff from his album. One of it was "Rock My Body," which is awesome, just an amazing track. And he played a track on Black Hole Records called Traffic by DJ TF which is like an old school sound, which is like totally not, you know, what you were expecting. Which is kind of cool because I'm an old school girl, I like that old school sound from the early 90's, and he had a traffic set and he's going to be playing in Ibiza on the 14th of September and I'm going to be out there. And I wanted to meet him, I have this incredible respect for him as a DJ and as a producer. He's so world-wide, he has such talent and he's not snooty, he's really nice. He doesn't have an attitude, he's really down to earth and I noticed it when I saw him play at Spundae on New Year's Day, do you remember that? Had you heard about that, he played on New Year's Day?
Ron: No, I didn't hear about that.
Irene: Yes, he played there and I saw him play, and he was like taking pictures with people while he was playing, shaking hands. And you know, you see a lot of these DJs don't do that, they're all stone-faced and that what's I liked about him, he was exactly somebody who does something like me.
Ron: He has personality and energy. So how was Ibiza?
Irene: Well, I'm going back on September 10th. I'm going there actually on vacation, I want to get inspired, just walk away because I've been working so hard. Like I said, Friday I was with Ferry Corsten, Saturday I did the "Pimp and Whore" party which is like ten thousand people.
Ron: Lord!
Irene: I've been rushing all weekend. And that was just amazing, these people all dressed up like pimps and whores and I get to see my dancers you know, getting my ziggy-wiggy ready going on, you know what I'm saying? And then Sunday, I was in Chicago which was, they had like four thousand people and it was just amazing. It was raining and stuff and people went out.
Ron: What's the biggest crowd you've every DJed to?
Irene: The biggest crowd? I would say well, a few years back I did that AIDS Danceathon and that was a lot of people, when it used to be at the sports arena. And then Monster Mathers, New Year's Eve up there in the sports arena, and then also playing at the Hollywood Boulevard New Year's Eve, that was a big crowd.
Ron: That's great. So what's the hardest part of traveling so much?
Irene: The hardest part? Being in an airplane does put a lot of wear and tear on you. Like you know, you're only sleeping a couple of hours and then you get to your hotel and you're going to sleep a couple of hours, and you're trying to sleep on the plane and you've got to get ready and you've got to show up a performance, and you've got to sign autographs and yeh, yeh, yeh. You get back and it's like oh gosh, you've drank some Red Bull so you can't go to sleep a little bit you know, so you wait to wind down.
Ron: And don't forget all the time it takes to do your make up.
Irene: Oh yes, that's true.
Ron: So have you ever been proposed to while spinning?
Irene: While spinning? Oh yes, oh yes. I say thank you, but no thank you.
Ron: By the way, congratulations on winning Best DJ of the Year from Club Nation - how did it feel to win such an honor?
Irene: It was great you know, that I'm considered one of the best DJs. Wow! Who knew?
