Ego War, the new full length artist album by west Londons bad boys the Audio Bullys, is an unmixed artist production which has elements of breakbeat, garage, and hip-hop. Audio Bullys unique sound would be hard to put in one type of genre.
Way Too Long, the third track, features an Elvis Costello guitar riff sample blended with a garage beat with some scratching and other effects. It is quite nice indeed. The song Real Life, a real party track, works a crunchy, electro clash bassline with some great effects and an emcee style on the mic. Real Life is a complete Audio Bullys original production, free of any samples. Another non-sampled track is The Tyson Shuffle which has a jam band (i.e. Sublime) type of sound to it with a very rhythmic bassline and some ghastly vocals. The albun slows down a bit with the track The Things which has a flanger type effect on the vocals and a light touch of horns. Coming up near the end is a quite housy track called I Go to Your House, which is funky and very well titled.
The CD ends with the title track, Ego War, a great summarization of the whole CD broken beat and very fun. Just when you think its over at 4 minutes 36 seconds the CD continues till about 8 minutes. A hidden track chimes in that is real downtempo and gives shout outs to there fallen homies - a good way to wrap up this innovative CD. The Audio Bullys have there own style of electronic music and they arent afraid to show it.
