Savannah Georiga resident DJB unleashes his second installment in the Breakbeat Sessions series upon us. This disc is filled to the brim with everything that is breakbeat. DJB is most known in the breaks realm for his remixes of Who Da Funk - "Shiny Disco Balls" and also his work with Terry Thurston on "Sonmabooty", a remix of the BT smash "Somnambulist." Recently added to the The Camel National Event Tour, DJB is dedicated to spreading the sound of breaks all over the country. His blend of both nu-skool and funky breaks leaves no soul standing still on the dancefloor or within earshot for that matter.
DJB opens with the Roxymusic's No Skool Remix of the Benny Benassi chart topper "Satisfaction." This track correlates the filtered bass and vocals of the original set to a fun breakbeat bassline. Infiniti & Franco-D step up next with the deep, dark breaks monster in "Motormouth." The hard edged basslines of Infiniti are apparent with some funky synth loops and some filtered ragga vocals to fill it in. An intoxicating track in "Ride" by Chable & Bonnici chimes in next. This track has a bangin bassline with sounds that seemed to be taken from outer space. It gives off a progressive house feel but with the fun of a breaks remix.
The Finger Lickin' crew steps up next with their poster children, Plump DJs. These UK breakers are the hottest thing going in progressive breaks and are getting plays from Sasha to Icey. Their song "How Much Is Enough" has some serious dark loops and a robotic vocals that is sure to get the club pumped. The legendary DJ Icey donates his track "Oblivious" into the mix. The Florida sound permeates this mix with the sounds of funky riffs on the keys and some freestyle shoutouts. Joe Galdo steps up to the plate with the Fixx & J-Break Remix of his song "Keef." This dark track has some cool "Smoke Out" vocals and some strange, almost scratching sounds, way cool.
Another breaks scholar also lends a track to this mix. Sharaz, owner of 941 records, has been producing tracks for almost 5 years now and is as hot as ever. The track "Roughneck" is, well, read the review (awesome). The final five tracks are provided by an all-star line-up as well. Factor E & Knick show off there "Street Schict." It has grinding synth loops and some jamming snare fill. Our host DJB plays his newest track entitled "Hedge." This song is very progressive-influenced with a supersmooth breakdown and some dirty synth sounds. Simply Jeff funks up "My Beats" with an Florida style bassline and some screaming vocals that are very freaky. Superconcious chills out and starts "Sipping Soma" with Dave London & Filthy Rich on the remix. This song saw remixes from all over the world including one by Paul Van Dyk. The melodic vocals are cleverly laid atop a bangin breakbeat drum pattern, and finally the maestro DJB joins with Terry Thurston and shakes their "Somnabooty."
Overall this breaks party in a box is fun and exciting. Breakbeat is on the horizon as being a huge new scene in dance music. Werd to ya mutha
