Charles Feelgood - Across America

Charles Feelgood, long-time partner of DJ Scott Henry, and co-founder of Fever, a club that touched off the now vibrant and ever-thriving DC/Baltimore electronic music scene, mixes up a nearly perfect mix CD for Nigel Richard’s always impressive label, 611 partnered with System Recordings. On this, the fifth installment of the label’s DJ series, Feelgood lays down steady but unstoppable house beats in true-to-form funkified disco style.

It’s hard to really single out any track, as Feelgood lays down every cut on the album with such careful resolve they all seem part of a whole, but a few stand out. “Groove Like That” reincarnates the vocals of Chaka Khan over a fierce bass riff, and Nigel Richard’s “F***ing Disco” delivers the teched-out disco flavor. “Key de Es” & “La Luz” bring on the Latin beat and share some horns to boot. “The Funky Women” stands out, as does the John Ciafone discofied Underworld track “Two Months Off”.

But perhaps the best tracks on the album are the bookends, Feelgood’s “Altitude”, which opens the album on a soulful note, and “I Feel Good” (w/Scotty Clausen) which closes the album with a disco funk track that would do any club proud.

It’s hard to say much except that you have to hear and feel this album to know how good it is. From the first track, you’ll be feeling the good vibes, and try as you might, it’ll be impossible to resist shaking your hips.
