Two must-have compilations for anyone into "broken-house"/"broken beat" are Patrick Forge's
PF03:Electic, and Bugz in the Attic's
Fabriclive. 12. The Tracklisting on both of these read like a Bruk house 2003 Top Ten.
Patrick Forge's studio mix brings back some great moments of the year with Alison David's anthemic "Dreams", Reel People's "Second Guess", and Season's "Juice". Also featured is gorgeous Jazzinho's gorgeous Latin-esque "Yambou", remixed in classic Restless Soul style, and some characteristically sick business from Phuturistix, the 2-step-jazz vocal "Feel It Out". A couple of the many highlights on this expertly mixed comp are Xantone Blacq's sublime jazz-dance tune "Search for the Sun", and Shade of Soul's "Give in to Me". This recently released tune is already making serious waves and will no doubt carry on into next year as a huge tune.

Bugz in the Attic - Fabric Live 12
Fabric
West London music dons Bugz in the Attic serve up a fine blend of tasty treats, mixed live at London's famed Fabric Nightclub. Included on this excursion into the edgy end of funk/soul/jazz/boogie are massive tunes like Seiji's "Loose Lips", the Bugz remix of Vikter Duplaix's "Looking for Love", and Kaidi and Dego's "Got Me Puzzled". Alongside those classic cuts are unreleased gems like Umod's (read Domu) "Tromboline", and the current Holy Grail of broken beat tunes, DKD's (Dego, Kaidi, and Daz-I-Kue) "Future Rage". Also featured are some nice cuts from Focus, Nutmeg, and Artwork.
Both of these CD comps are superb as either introductions into the wonderful world of broken beat/house, or as pleasant reminders of the superb year we've had in music.
