Detroit native Kevin Saunderson has been at the forefront of techno for nearly two decades now. The Motor City has often been heralded as the birthplace of techno, and Kevin was one of the godfathers. He attended high school with two major techno playas, Derrick May and Juan Atkins, and he used their influence to begin producing his own music. Not only is Kevin a DJ and producer, he is also the man behind World of Deep Records. Kevin, along with vocalist partner Paris Grey, are also the faces of Inner City and such hits as "Big Fun," "Good Life," and "Ain't Nobody Better." After a dozen UK Top 40 hits, a pair of top 20 albums, and sales that total over six million, Trust the DJ has released their third exclusive Kevin Saunderson mix CD in the form of Deep Space Techno.
Kevin's mix of house and techno, gives off pure energy and a vibe that is both exciting and danceable. He starts out with everyone's favorite Frenchman, Antoine Clamaran presents Supala. "Alert" is a great start with a loop of steel drums and a hard bass line. Robbie Rivera and Willie Morales provide their track "Sound the Horn." On here you can feel the horns along with the sweet percussion and a
smooth tight breakdown. The man himself presents Inner City with "Say Something." This release, on his own World of Deep Records, has a lovely piano in the chorus that makes you feel like your in a studio with a classic pianist. The souful vocals add an elegant sound to an already-beautiful song.
Rounding out the CD he bangs out tracks from Paul Mac, Dee Jay Nephets, Devilfish and Ignition Technician. Though some of the mixes are less than perfect, it doesn't detract from the CD. Techno isn't about flawless mixing anyway, right?
