Electric Monkey records based in Los Angeles, California comes out swingin' with its first full-length CD release. The Latin Project's "Nueva Musica" is a Latin-dance triumph, offering an infectious blend of upbeat organic Latin rhythms and horns with sleek production and electronic dance music. British duo Jez Colin and Matt Cooper form The Latin Project, and together bring a wealth of experience in musicianship, production and writing. Jez' roots lie in the heyday of acid jazz with the Solsonics, whom he co-founded in 1993. Matt is best known for his work on the Dorado label as Outside, and for his production work with acid jazz giants Incognito. The question remains, can two British acid jazz-heads make good Latin music?
Absolutely. "Nueva Musica" boasts some wicked tunes that will undoubtedly hold their own on the hottest dancefloors in the world. The group's first single "En Fuego" and "Musica de Amor", both meld funky U.K. 2-step beats with traditional elements like flamenco guitar, Spanish vocals, and congas. "Windows" features Terrence Trent D'Arby, recording and writing as Sananda, on a classic house track complete with heavy percussion, rolling piano and rich soulful vocals.
Overall, The Latin Project delivers a solid debut with stellar production and flavorful danceable grooves.
