Ministry of Sound - American Anthems DJ Skribble and David Waxman

Ultra
The indomitable Ministry of Sound’s latest compilation, American Anthems, features two discs packed full of several of the season’s the hottest dance tracks as well as some of the best remixes to hit clubs in the past few months. Of course, the emphasis is on the mix, and DJ Skribble and David Waxman, who mixed disc one and two respectively, inject their distinctive styles into Anthems.

Although at times, the disc might be occasionally monotonous (though what dance compilation isn’t?), it’s perfect for pumping yourself up before a night out or as the soundtrack to your very own high energy social gathering.

It’s hard to go wrong with a compilation that includes the genius of Benny Benassi’s “Satisfaction,” the lush harmonies of Jason Nevins’ “I’m in Heaven,” and the guitar-driven edge of Scumfrog’s “Music Revolution.” If nothing else, American Anthems is worth checking for the remix of The Streets’ “Weak Become Heroes” (done by the underrated Royskopp) that somehow gives frontman Mike Skinner’s rapping something resembling rhythm.
