What a concept! Take one of dance musics most influential artists, and ask them to make a "mixtape" of songs that have influenced their career. Then, write short but insightful blurbs about why each song was chosen. And lastly, all fans of said influential dance artist will pick up the end result because what fan wouldnt want to hear the songs that inevitably inspired such Orb classics as "Perpetual Dawn" and "A Huge, Ever-Growing, Pulsating Brain That Rules From The Centre of the Ultraworld?" Throw on an exclusive Orb track not found anywhere, and weve got marketing genius, I tell ya! This particular volume in the series features songs chosen by Dr. Alex Patterson of The Orb. Classic chill-out tunes from B12, Juno Reactor, and FFWD groove nicely alongside future classics from Charles Webster and Joachim Spieth. Aphex Twin bats twice in this line-up with two of his essential tunes, "Polynominal-C" and "Blue Calx." "Have You Seen Her?" by The Chi-lites drops perfectly midway into the mix, along with "Falling" by Julee Cruise. Dr. Patterson finally ends things exquisitely with "The Light 3000" by Schneider TM vs. KPT.Michi.gan, which is an IDM version of The Smiths classic, "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out.
"
For the uninitiated, "Back To Mine" is a phrase commonly used by Brits to invite friends back to their flat for a post-club, unwind session. As the artwork states, this CD is a "personal collection for after hours grooving." Previous volumes in this brilliant series has seen collections by such luminaries as Danny Tenaglia, Everything But The Girl, Dave Seaman, Nick Warren, Faithless, New Order, Orbital and more, and Underworlds collection should be out by the time you read this.
I highly recommend that when you purchase this CD, burn it onto a blank CD-R, hide the original packaging, scribble some gibberish on the front of the CD-R, and then tell all your friends that Alex Patterson made you a personalized mix CD. Theyll think youre cool, I promise. (This trick works for all the other artists, too. You should have seen my mates face when I told them that Barney from New Order made me a mix CD!)
