The CD is a continuous mix of 13 tracks mainly taken from previous PvD releases, primarily "Out there and back" and "Seven Ways" and showcases Paul's signature progressive trance (or as he likes to call it "electronic dance music") style. Whether it's a bass line that sounds so fat & funky it ought to be a P-funk lick, as on "Beautiful Place," or arctic-ly cool string sounds such as on the St. Etienne collaboration on "Tell Me Why," the almost perfect blend of sounds is truly remarkable. Every song has a rise and fall, a pitch and rhythm that's just made for getting you up off your ass and onto the dance floor. Calling trance music "hypnotic" is really beyond cliché, but if there's a better description it's hard to find.
PvD fans probably already have the music, so while the CD might present a nice addition to their collection and an excellent introduction to Paul's music for everyone else, it could slip off the radar as yet another greatest hits megamix were it packaged alone. However, the heart of Global is the 120+ minute DVD mastered in amazing Dolby 5.1 digital surround, which bonds the music with footage of Paul weaving his magic spell on three continents. Spinning everywhere from the Love Parade in Berlin to sold out shows in Bangkok, Miami & San Francisco, the DVD is a journey around the world that's as much a feast for the eyes as it is for the ears, and even includes footage from the films "Zurdo" (more than slightly reminiscent of the masterful "City Of God") and "One Perfect Day." There are also plenty of extras like "testimonials" (some of which are hilarious) from PvD fans around the world, interviews with Paul, and some original video clips.
After watching him trotting the globe to one A-list destination after another, greeted by throngs of adoring fans everywhere he goes, one might be tempted to be jealous of Paul.
