Let me just say that I usually just review the material that I have. However, when I heard that Richard Humpty Vission had released his latest Mix CD Compilation, I personally asked System Recordings if I could review it. Gee, wouldnt you know, they said yes! So here it goes. To understand this CD is to understand Richard Humpty Vission. I have been a big fan of his since the beginning of his days in The Movement all the way up until now. Now having just read that last sentence and doing the math, you begin to figure out that he has been around this industry for a long time. He is one of the few people who continues to stay on top of the music industry throughout the years and keeps re-inventing himself every year. Just that alone is to be commended with a standing ovation. So now that you know a little bit more about Richard, lets get deep into the House of Funk even though Grandma didnt really build it.
Even though the tracklisting says 30 plus tracks, dont be fooled. There is way more than that. Richard seamlessly mixes in and out of each track with smooth precision and his quick mixing ability along with crazy editing makes this CD a steal.
The lead track is Amazing by DJ Flex, the perfect track to get the Funk started. For those of you who knows Richards style, should have already guessed that somewhere in his mix will include the timeless classic Jungles Brothers Ill House You. Truly showing how he never forgets his roots. Awesome tracks that follows is the brand new Benny Benassi No Matter What You Do followed by the annoying but purely addictive The Phone Track by DJ Dan.
Then came one of the best surprises on the CD. You see Bucci Bag by Andrea Doria listed on the CD under (RHV Mix). Yes, but the Easter Egg is hidden as he first mixed the Dub Mix off the Import Kontor Label first, then flawlessly mixing in his mix. Youll flip when you hear it. From there the mix picks up even more steam with the DanceStar 2004 Best Single Born Too Slow by the Crystal Method. A few more tracks down comes the Latin house flavor of Calinda by Ritmo Dynamic.
Then quickly switches to a mix of the Blue Monday classic in the form of Like You Do by Phillipe B. Richard then takes the Funk into a Drum and Bass mode for a few songs showing off his versatility. As the House Funk starts back up again comes another Easter Egg. One of his new singles with the Static Revenger with Sexy, is an absolute monster. Listen closely to the rhythmic beats, they took the hook from an old 60s classic by the Kinks All Day and All of The Night. NICE! He then comes to a close on this all out funk mix with hits like Never Let Me Down by RHV, I Just Want To Be a Drummer by Heavy Rock and ends the CD with a beautiful song with Everyone by Static Revenger.
Well, I just did the hard part. I broke down the whole CD for you. Now its up to you to do the easy part. Buy it and listen to it. Oh, if you are going to blast this CD in your house
move the furniture first!
