Richard X, the man behind some of the most intriguing mash-ups and white labels of the past few years, serves up some of his best with a great deal of Human League analog merriment. His Adina Howard "Freak like Me"/Tubeway Army "Are 'Friends' Electric?" mash-up became a UK number one with the Sugababes taking over vocals for Ms. Howard, and it is present here along with X's other brilliant combinations (Liberty X covering "Ain't Nobody" over the Human League's "Being Boiled," or my personal favorite, Kelis tackling the S.O.S. Band's "The Finest" over the League's "The Things That Dreams Are Made Of"). There's also some offerings from Tiga and a deadpan electro cover of "Walk On By" that, while it doesn't attain the transcendent majesty in the new-dance-version-of-soul-classic variation of Bomb the Bass' "Say A Little Prayer," still delivers some joy to listeners who appreciate it when different styles of music can play nice together.
