Seal - Get it Together

Reprise Records
After a while away from the music industry, Seal is back and perfectly willing to give back to clubland after we helped to start off his career with the one-two punch of "Killer" (with Adamski) and "Crazy." "Get it Together," in its original form, is a disco-influenced uptempo R&B number that vibes rather nicely. In a nice change from the wasteland that spawns most of the major label remix options, there are mixes for just about every kind of club persuasion. Peter Rauhofer's Classic Club Mix (****1/2) is a delight (and a welcome change from a lot of the minimal stuff he's been turning out as of late) that feels timeless and energetic. This is certainly among the best mixes Rauhofer has done since (current P.R. apotheosis) Amanda Ghost's "Filthy Mind," and it is matched in playability and innovation by Superchumbo's Guiding Light Mix (****), which is aggressive and electro-y in the right ways.
Bill Hamel's mix (***1/2) is ethereal and impeccably orchestrated, and progressive floors are probably eating it up already. The Wide Horizon Mix (***) is downtempo and beat-driven, and nice on those terms. The Roy Davis Jr. Mix (****) is like a slightly more discofied Ananda Project track, and is a delight for early morning floors.
There was a time, you know, when one could expect this kind of assortment of top-notch mixes regularly on CD5s. For now, at least, the golden age of domestic CD maxis live on.
