Techno Party Volume 2

After reviewing a countless number of compilation discs, I am happy to say that the people at Robbins Records have figured out that radio mixes do not go well on a mixed compilation. That is, in fact, one of my biggest pet peeves. They have no business in a mix- the only thing they are intended for is the radio. With that said, this unmixed Robbins compilation is a collection of body moving anthems that are sure to get the party started.

Now even though it is a CD of mixed radio edits (which you know how I feel about that), it has a great track selection. Starting it off is Heavy Rock with "(I Just Want To Be A) Drummer." It tells the story of the modern day dilemma that everyone either is or wants to be a DJ. Lots of talking but the beats is solid and very danceable. Next arrival to the party is Fight Club featuring Laurent Konrad. They brought "Spread Love" with them. This track has soulful female vocals with hard pounding beats and some filtered bass.

The anthem of 2003 is up next in the form of Benny Benassi presents 'The Biz.' Their massive hit "Satisfaction" combines some heavily filtered bass with contorted vocals and a pumpin bass line. If you haven't heard this in the club yet, stop going out. There's no hope. The Dutchman Ferry Corsten busts in with his anthem "Rock Your Body, Rock." This floorfilling track has euphoric synth loops and mesmerizing vocals. Ferry has cemented his place in dance music with a slew of awesome singles. The energy stays high with Groove Coverage and there song "Poison." This song has a Hi-NRG pop sound to it and is a lot of fun.

Another Dutch DJ/producer chimes in with his song "Traffic." It's some no name by the name Tiesto. (I can't even type that without laughing). The #1 ranked DJ in the world for two years running delivers a trance monster from his new album "Just Be." "Traffic" is a correlation of smooth synth vibes blended with banging trance music. The shortened edit doesn't detract too much from the overall feel of the song. The Dirt Devils (and no, it is not a team of vacuum cleaners) tells us that "Music is Life."

This melodic dance track is not as hard as some of the previous but it still makes you want to shake it. Moving into an almost Happy Hardcore vibe are Porn Kings vs. Flip & Fill with "Shake Ya Shimmy." This is a little too bouncy for my taste but the song isn't terrible by any means.

One of the more interesting songs on the disc is "Put Your Hands in the Air (Uhh Ooh)." Belushi turns out a Lumidee-sampling NRG track that is sure to have your feet tapping and head bobbing. Keeping with the pounding sound is DJ Isaac with "Go Insane." This songs takes as little bit to get used to but it is full of life a defiantly has the spirit of the party. No party CD would be complete without a track from Scooter. "Maria (I Like It Loud)" is a track by Scooter vs. Marc Acardipane & Dick Rules. It keeps the same fast-paced sounds as the rest of the album.

If you thought Robbins was going to let you down easy, think again. This CD is a lot of fun but not for the eclectic, underground dance music buyer. If you want a CD to rock a party of people that don't know about electronica, this is the one.
