Ultra
The latest Ultra Records chill out album, Chilled 04, is sure to help set the mood for a variety of occasions. It’s ideal for a post-club late night get-together, though it would also give the atmosphere a slight edge while playing in the background during a romantic dinner or even cleaning up the house on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Overall, as was the case with Chilled’s predecessors, the two-CD compilation is fairly solid. Mixed and edited deftly by David Waxman, it features an array of styles and genres, from dance to new age, jazz to rock, though most of them tend to lean toward the ambient.

Disc one’s highlights include Goldfrapp’s gorgeous “Hairy Trees,” Zero 7’s understated remix of N.E.R.D.’s “Provider,” Magnet’s Radiohead-esque “The Last Day of Summer,” and Postal Service’s haunting “This Place Is a Prison.” The second disc, though a touch inferior to the first, also has its share of keepers, including the slow groove of Weekend Player’s “Jericho,” Lamb’s lovely “Gabriel,” and Caia’s lush instrumental “Remembrance.”
