Chillout 2003 - The Ultimate Chillout
by Various Artists

Guide Rating -

Looking for the perfect CD for the ride home after clubbing? Chillout 2003 compiles some wonderful music for the wind-down time after you have been sweating for several hours. Telepopmusik's "Love Can Damage Your Health" stands out as one of the few times when an artist's follow-up song is better than their debut hit. Kirsty Hawkshaw, the original singer of Opus III, reclaims "Fine Day" after it has been massacred by so many others. Sinead O'Connor extends her reign as trance vocalist for hire on Carmen Rizzo's seductive mix of "Tears from the Moon." Pairing Maxi Jaxx (from Faithless) with Robbie Williams may seem odd, but 1 Giant Leap's "My Culture" stands out as one of the best records in recent memory. Though unmixed, Chillout 2003 sort has a calming energy flow from one song to the next, and the fact that it ends with New Order's shimmering "Your Silent Face" from 1983 is the most delightful kind of icing of an airy and delicate cake.
