Remixed
Mexican soap opera starlet Thalia is making a valiant effort to capture the hearts of US clubland with this surprisingly strong remix album of her multilingual hits. Pablo Flores' remix of "Entre el Mar Y Una Estrella" best represents how Thalia's dance music speaks to everyone. I don't speak a word of Spanish, though I can feel the emotion through the chord changes, tempo transitions, and Thalia's heartfelt vocal interpretations. Hex Hector's mix of "A Quien La Importa" is incredibly strong, as is his remix of "The Mexican" which, unfortunately, is presented here only in a radio edit. On the pop side, the tragic and dated Ace of Base-sounding "Piel Morena" is overpowered by the infectious "It's My Party" and the Gloria Estefan-channeling "No Me Ensenaste." The CD makes me wonder what's next for Thalia; a full-frontal attack of the United States? Beware Paulina and Shakira, you've got competition...
