RS: Americans have all this pretentious puritan nonsense fed to them, and I think Europeans are a lot more open with sex, attitudes
and everything else in that regards.
Billie Myers: I think the American population are open about sex in terms of on an everyday level but I think its the American
media and the political situation here that really baby-sits the right wing. One of the most ridiculous things for me is, we want to stop
teenage pregnancies but most of the schools don't want to teach about safe sex or contraception. On national TV, you can see people dying but
God forbid you see somebody getting a little too ruckus. It's not that I want to have kids and see my kids watching two rabbits bonk like mad
things, but if I had to choose between watching two people being relatively intimate in a non-hardcore way or watch someone's leg being blown
off, I know which one I'd go for.
RS: Going back to Just Sex, did Roland Belmares produce it or remix it?
Billie Myers: He remixed it, but in fairness to him, the only thing he used from the original was the vocal. We actually redid
some of the vocals so that it was a better fit rhythmically over what he had done. He did an amazing job in terms of turning it into that very
club type of steamy track.
When we were rerecording the vocal, I was being so naughty and really silly. He's such a sweetheart and quite shy and I'm moaning, "oh, oh, give it to me hardcore Roland." You better use that Roland or else we'll never work together. Of course he's never used it because he was horrified but it was so funny.
RS: How did you meet up with Roland?
Billie Myers: Through friends. What happened was some people knew him, he knew of me, and I was looking for someone who might be
good for remixing Sex. I was just really lucky that he liked the song and we worked so well together. I've got to be honest, I'm very blessed
and there's been some really, really nice people around who have come onboard. I think Jason Nevins is going to do a remix and I've spoken to
Tracy Young and she's going to do one. It's very nice when high profile people come onboard without any reason other than they want to.
RS: You were discovered dancing at a club, so I've got to ask - do you still go out clubbing?
Billie Myers: I love going out clubbing actually. I don't as much as I used to because of my work schedule but give me two
Cosmopolitans or three Tequilas and I am that girl in the middle shaking my head from side-to-side having a really good time. Or, depending on
exactly how drunk I am, sometimes finding a pole and thinking I'm Carmen Electra with the Pussycat Dolls. Not that I achieve quite the same
visual impact, but I do try.
RS: Have you ever performed at a dance club to your dance tracks?
Billie Myers: I was lucky enough to close the White Party down here in Miami for Liquid, for Chris and Ingrid a while ago.
Ironically enough, they asked me to do the acoustic version of "Kiss the Rain" since it was a closing party. I wasn't sure because I didn't
want to bring the party down, but they were insistent because it would be the first time it was done. I did it and it went down like a storm,
it was amazing. So I've done that and a few other PA's with "Kiss the Rain." I'm actually looking forward to getting out there with "Just Sex"
because it just begs for audience participation.
RS: Oh, definitely.
Billie Myers: For me when I perform, it really is half about me and half about the audience, their reaction and my reaction to
them, so it's a lot of fun.
