As a writer and dance music lover, the concept of a black diva singing a house anthem gets to be almost cliche - after a while you can't tell them apart. Along comes Debby Holiday with her inspirational and uplifting record "Dive," pulling her rock and soul influences onto the dancefloor, making DJs and dancefloors stand up and scream. Blessed with a soulful yet edgy voice that she has honed working the theater circuit, Debby's live performance and debut single are encouraging us all to "Dive" into a new world!

DJ Ron Slomowicz: Have you been singing your whole life?
Debby: Yes, I've been singing since my father pulled me over to the piano to show me what middle C was.

RS: How has your theater work helped your musical aspirations?
Debby: Oh, well first of all - after singing rock n' roll and pop most of my life - I have a new found respect and awe for musical in the theater and what it truly takes to not only project but also act and feel the music to the audience. I think it's made me much more versatile.

RS: Dance isn't your primary genre; what do you think is?
Debby: Rock 'n Roll first and foremost is my lust and love. I grew up around it and the sound of guitars just makes me crazy and happy. But, eclectic should be my middle name - I listen to everything from Billie Holiday to David Bowie to Angelique Kidjo.

RS: Hearing a black girl rock, so to say, is something that hasn't really been done successfully before. What do you think you bring to the table that's going to take it over the top?
Debby: Well, besides my own natural reverence for the genre - how about the fact that all rock n' roll was birthed from some form of soul or R&B - in the first place. From Big Momma Thornton to Little Richard - rock n' roll began as "race music." And hell, Rock N Roll is all about fire and passion and I got plenty of that to spare.

RS: What was the inspiration for the song "Dive?"
Debby: <laughing>- Sheer frustration !!!! I was angry at myself for buying someone else's crap. That feeling we all have when we get stuck in the details and stop seeing the big picture. When we start listening too much to outside opinions and believing them. It really is "A great big world" and as long as we're still blessed with life, it's up to each of us to grab hold of every single breath and "Dive" into the future WE want for ourselves - not one dictated from any other source.

RS: How did you get involved with the dance scene?
Debby: Ahhhhh ... the wonderful and talented writer Mr. Del Shores was looking for some dance music for an upcoming movie (Southern Baptist Sissies) so I went searching. I came up with Dive and gave a copy to Del and my PR guy, Andrew Briskin. Andrew flipped and went right into action - contacting remixers he thought were right. Within a week, Chris Cox, Scotty K. and Scott Anderson of Solar City were all on board. The ball just started rolling and it's been quite a ride.
