RS: Is Exposé doing a club tour? What kind of events are you
looking to do?
Gioia Bruno: We're doing all different types of events. So far
we've done a couple of casinos - we played at the Joint at the Hard
Rock, the Northern Lights Casino, and the American Airlines arena in
Miami. We'll be doing everything from spare dates to casinos to clubs
to arenas, the sky's the limit.
RS: So it's been a couple of years since the first time around,
how has the music industry changed since the first exposure of Exposé?
Gioia Bruno: There's a whole lot more music out there. As far as
the industry's changes, we're going digital here and you can put your
music out on your own without a label. It's just an amazing thing.
You can make your own destiny if you're hungry enough and you work
hard enough.
RS: In that direction, you have a really amazing website. How
involved are you with your website?
Gioia Bruno: Oh, the brand new one that Rich did? Let's talk about
Rich for a minute. Rich, our web designer, has been working with me
for years- he's always just loved the group Exposé and supported us.
He put the new website up in a couple of days and he didn't stop
working. It's only just begun and I know he's got crazy plans. The
website is exposeonline.net, and he put us up on MySpace -
MySpace.com/exposeonline. From there, you can get all of our personal
MySpaces, and it's just so great. I've got to tell you, I think the
internet has made a huge change in the music industry because you can
hear downloads of new music and communicate with any band you want to.
RS: Very cool. I've always wanted to ask you about a song you
did a couple of years ago. When you wrote "Wreckin' My Nerves," was
there something specific in your mind?
Gioia Bruno: Yes, a lot of stuff. Each line was for some different
situation in my life. I wrote that with Chris Cox, who used to be
with Thunderpuss. We wrote it in Jerry the Deli mostly. Certain
friends were driving me crazy at the time and the song was a better
response than Librium.
RS: I've seen you perform live a couple of times and you prowl
like a cat. Are you in character on stage, or what's your source for
that energy on stage?
Gioia Bruno: I think energy is created when you come into contact
with something or someone, and the crowd is always the source. They
say if you want a hundred percent response you've got to give a
hundred and fifty, so I give about two hundred and fifty. I'm having
so much fun and it's obvious that I love my job, so I just go out
there and do what comes naturally.
RS: After being a solo artist these last couple of years, is it
difficult to go back and be part of a group again?
Gioia Bruno: The first show at the American Airlines Arena was a
change for me. I wasn't sure what to do with myself because I didn't
want to overdo it and wanted to give everyone their space, and that's
how it was. Now I feel fine about it. I was always myself with
Exposé, I was always the little crazy one. Someone said once that I
was like the straw that stirs the drink, I mix things up a little. We
all add our different dimensions to the group and that's what makes
the group work so well. It's so nice and relaxed up there, and I love
those girls. They're wonderful and a big part of my life, so it just
makes sense to come back together and do this.
RS: What's your favorite Exposé song to sing live?
Gioia Bruno: The other day I was saying that I love doing "I Wish
the Phone Would Ring" because I like doing the silly choreography we
do. Right now we're doing a medley of super power ballads in our show
and the third album had all these beautiful harmonies which I had to
take some time out to study, and I really enjoy doing that. So we all
just go through this ten-minute medley, the massive power hits and
they're beautiful.
RS: Of your solo songs, what's your favorite one to sing live?
Gioia Bruno: "From The Inside." I know that sounds terribly naughty
of me- Junior took what I did and he did this crazy thing with it and
it sounds heavy. It's awesome to perform live. My other big favorite
to sing life is is "Addicted" off the Expose This album.
RS: Anything you want to say to all your fans out there?
Gioia Bruno: I think they're amazing, and I'm so excited to meet
every single one of them that comes down. I've been reading all this
fan mail that we're getting now through the site and it's old friends
and faces I remember as well as new ones and kids and parents. It's
so great to hear from everyone, I mean, we'd be nothing without them.
It's just that it's taken us all this time to get back together.
Stick by us a little more, we'll keep you happy, absolutely.
RS: I just picture a whole Celine Dion-esque Cirque du Soleil
show with Exposé performing.
Gioia Bruno: That would be incredible. I love Vegas, and wouldn't
it be great to be able to park there for a while with a show that was
really big and incredible... We have our wish list, trust me.
