RS: I heard you guys were on TRL recently, what's it like being
gay guys on MTV?
Jacob: That's absolutely fantastic and much thanks to Brian Braeden
for helping make that happen. It's incredible that two gay guys are
on TRL. It's a dream come true for Josh and me too, unbelievable
really. They just started running the VH1 piece today and MTV's doing
a thirty-minute special on us that will run in December, so the
response from MTV has been overwhelming and very exciting.
RS: How's the album coming along?
Jacob: The album is finished, we finished it yesterday.
RS: What was the last song you recorded?
Jacob: The last song we recorded was "Say Goodbye," which we
originally recorded when we lived in Nashville. We've been making
updates to it so that it would sound a little more current with the
rest of the material on the record. We finished it yesterday, and I'm
so glad.
RS: How much on the album did you write?
Jacob: Let's see, we wrote six or seven of the songs of the album so
over half of the album was written by us.
RS: What's like your songwriting process?
Jacob: It's a bit different for both of us. We used to write
completely alone and separate from each other and we would write the
songs entirely by ourselves. A couple of the songs that are on the
album are actually co-written with other people which we really
enjoyed. The theme song for the TV series, Rise Up, Joshua and I
co-wrote together. It's the first song that we've ever written
together. We kind of thought it was going to be a lot more difficult
than it was and it actually was a lot of fun.
RS: So does it look like you'll have a second season on Logo?
Jacob: I sure hope so. The initial response from Logo has been
overwhelmingly good and I think that it bodes well for that
possibility.
RS: And will the two of you be touring a lot?
Jacob: Yes, I can't wait - that's one of the things I'm looking
forward to most. It's been so much about being gay in the initial
first three episodes of the series and I'm anxious for it to turn at
the fourth show and focus more seriously about the music. I'm really,
really excited to get on the road and go out and start meeting people
and letting them hear us perform live on stage.
RS: What was it like coming back to Nashville to perform at
Play, the club y'all used to work at?
Jacob: Unbelievable. The crowd in Nashville was fantastic! They
were so enthusiastic and the place was packed. Joshua was warmly
received because he used to bartend there - a lot of people feel a
strong connection to him. Just being in Nashville felt really good,
especially going to Play and being able to perform for the crowd was
very exciting for both of us.
RS: Where did the name Nemesis come from?
Jacob: When we lived in Nashville we were trying to figure out what
would be a good name for ourselves and I had been going through the
dictionary earlier in the day and I came across Nemesis and I thought
it was fitting. So when Joshua got home, we were sitting on the porch
outside and said what do you think of Nemesis, and it just stuck
immediately. We both loved it, it kind of describes our personalities
and our relationship with each other, and it was perfect.
RS: I thought there was like a Star Trek tie-in there.
Jacob: No, although we do love Star Trek: The Next Generation.
RS: Is there anything you want to say to all your new fans out there?
Jacob: I just want to tell them all that we can't thank them enough
for the support. They've been unbelievable, really. Keep sending us
emails through our website nemesisrising.com and letting us know
their thoughts and how they feel because we read them all. We don't
get to respond to them all but it means a lot to us to get their
feedback. We can't wait to see everyone while we are on tour.
