Dear DJ Ron,
My girlfriend and I have just started mixing beats on our Mac with Garage Band and now it has become a hobby (or "obsession") for us. We want to take it to the next level and purchase some sort of DJ mixing software. Do you have any suggestions for a couple of novice DJs?

Sounds like the DJ bug has bitten.
Since you are on a Mac- Vestax just released a product which I think will be perfect for you - Spin DJ. It's a low-cost controller combined with easy-to-use software.
We haven't reviewed it for the site but I have heard good things from a newbie who did use it. You may want to search around the web for other users' experience.
If you are looking for something a little more for serious DJing - I would recommend something like the Numark Omni Control (which has an integrated soundcard) - and software such as Traktor or Virtual DJ.
