When I travel, I try to attend events that I don't normally have access to (remember I am based in Nashville.) However, being in Rembrandtsplein with Paul Van Dyk spinning next door, I knew that I had to stop in. Superstar. Packed room. Insane energy. Overstimulation. Too much. Couldn't handle. Overload. Wasn't ready for that. 15 minutes later, I had to head out. It was incredible, but a PvD show is more like a movie than a tv show. You can't just show up and check it out between commercials while changing channels. Its a full on event/show, where you start early and experience the whole night as a singular experience. Paul van Dyk does incredible events - and in my mind - he is the number one DJ in the world. When he comes to your town, check out the show, he is worthy of all they hype and acclaim.
I jumped back over to Rain to close out the night with Stoney and friends. At 4am, the dancefloor was still full and people were still up for it - a definite sign of a good party. I stepped upstairs and saw a hugecrowd enjoying a mix of garage (the British type - urban styled house) and 2step. The second room was a nice balance to the event.
Since I revisited Rain, I thought I should go back and give the gay club Exit a second chance. The crowd had increased and there was a clear delineation between the bar area (playing top 40/pop music - for the under 25 crowd) and the dance floor (playing house/club music for the over 25 crowd.) Its interesting to note the same phenomenon that we get in the US gay clubs is happening overseas.
