The winners of the Dance Grammy Awards are:
Best Dance Recording: Justin Timberlake - LoveStoned/I Think She Knows
Reaction - As much as I would have loved to see Mika finally get some love in the US or Justice get a grammy for a dance record that bubbled up from the underground, I knew that either Justin or Rihanna would win this. Give credit where credit is due, a major pop artist recording and releasing a dance record is a good thing.
Best Electronic/Dance Album: The Chemical Brothers - We Are the Night
Reaction - Not to sound crass, but in a category where most of the nominees are unknown to the majority of the Grammy voting demographic - its not a surprise that the first nominee listed won. Maybe it's just leftover buzz for their great Budweiser commercial placement. I wonder if Razor and Guido get a portion of the proceeds (or at least a statuette) for the obvious sample? My personal opinion, hmm, I enjoyed all 5 nominated artist CDs and would have probably voted for Tiesto. Since the artist album by Jes was tragically overlooked this year, I am going to start the campaign now to get Robyn nominated for next year. Let's make sure the female artists get represented.
Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical: Public Enemy - Bring The Noise (Benny Benassi Sfaction Remix)
Reaction - This category always confuses as I have next to no clue where they get some of these nominees from. Don't get me wrong, I think Carl Craig is a legend - but where did that nomination come from. It often seems like this is an apology award, recognizing someone for the a library of past work they were not previously rewarded for - rather than the output of previous year (Frankie, Peter, Maurice). Y'all know I am a huge Benassi fan and I am glad he won (and deserves it for this and past work) but if I was giving this award based on 2007 output it would have gone to Dirty South since you couldn't listen to dance radio without hearing one of their mixes.
Random observation #1.. I am very happy that Mark Ronson won producer this year. Say what you want about the personal lives of Amy and Lily, Mark produced three incredible albums this year
Random observation #2.. (For the Project Runway fans) After seeing the dresses that Fergie, Aretha, Colbie and Natsha wore, Michael Kors owes Rami an apology for dissing his prom dress.
