With this being my first WMC experience, I left Nashville late Wednesday evening with great hopes and an open mind. After a grueling, sleepless 16-hour drive in a rented van riding six deep, I arrived in Ft. Lauderdale Thursday afternoon. I lucked out and managed to sleep two hours before showering, grabbing a bite to eat, and heading into Miami.
I had planned to start the weekend off with the Breaks Fest followed by the Future Sound of Breaks show. However, I arrived in Miami too late for the first and managed to talk myself into the World of Drum and Bass at Warehouse with the aspirations of catching my breaks fix later in the weekend. After a brief line and no hassles, I stepped into what would become the start of a wholly surreal experience. The World of Drum and Bass was sick! The progression of DJs and MCs went from sick to sicker. It pretty much went nasty, crunchy bassline to nasty crunchy bassline, then threw in some old school ragga vocals for good measure. The sound was massive, so massive in fact that Ill remember to get earplugs before coming next year. The only downside was a combination of Miami heat and my inability to keep my drinks from sweating out.
