Celebrating 20 Years in the Mix, the Official Winter Music Conference takes place March 22nd to 26th at the Wyndham Resort in Miami Beach. The WMC is thelargest gathering in the dance music industry bringing people from over 60 different countries for a week of panels, seminars and events.
Seminars and Panels
With over 35 seminars and panels, every aspect of dance music is covered. This year topics include: New Media Marketing and Revenue Streams, Media Relations, 24 Hour Party People: Club Culture, Get Signed!, Music as a Vehicle for Social Change, Marketing Dance Music in America, Do it Yourself…Innovative Promotion Methods, Is that Dance Music I Hear on the Radio?, Satellite Radio, European Market Trends, Evolving Business Models in the Digital Age, The State of the Industry Address, The Art of the DJ & Digital Mixing. A special Women Behind the Wheels panel with DJ Rap, Reid Speed, DJ Colette and Nadia Ali (Iio) will be followed by a special poolside DJ appearance by the Beauty and the Beats contest winner.
Workshops include Remix and Editing, Demo Listening, and Mock Negotiations. The SAE Institute will conduct a demonstration in the WMC Audio Lab for DJs about adding audio dynamics to DJ sets, turntables as seperate musical instruments and digital mixing.
All genres of music are included - with seminars focused on Chill Out, Lounge, World Music, Down Tempo; Reggaeton and the New Urban Latin Music Explosion ; and Urban Music and Hip Hop: We Are Family.
Events
WMC is known for the best parties and 2005 looks to be another big year. With the massive Ultra Music Festival as the official closing event (WMC Badgeholders receive complimentary admission) and the International Dance Music Awards (billed as the "first and largest awards ceremony dedicated to dance music"), WMC presents something for everyone with poolside performances & DJ sets, nightclub showcases and DMC DJ spin-off. Kicking off WMC will be the FinalScratch Cocktail party with Chris Liebing. The ResidentAdvisor.Net pool party, taking place right before the IDMA, features Steve Porter, Hec Romero, and Tyler Stadius.
