The Spundae Crew chilling at the Mixology Party

WMC - Nikki Beach

The last day of WMC is always pretty sad , not only that the weeklong music celebration is over but that after a night of Danny Tenaglia just about everyone is partied out. You can see it in people's faces - after a week of partying there are walking zombies on the streets of South Beach. And of course the only solution is one more party..

Mixology sponsored their sixth annual official closing party at Nikki Beach giving everyone a chance to chill, catch some rays and listen to some new tunes. I headed down there in the early afternoon and chilled for several hours. The Juicy crew were celebtrating the release of a cd and had several beds full with their roster. I managed to grab Benny Benassi for a quick interview. (look for it here in a few weeks) A highlight of the day came when Barbara Tucker came over and said hi. I asked if she knew Benny and since she didn't, I made the introduction. Benny got all excited (his smile widened) and called over his whole crew of Italian djs and producers for several photo ops with our Most Precious diva. Barbara mentioned in her interview that the Europeans love her and this was definitely a sure sign.

There was an awesome vibe with all kinds of international djs playing to the most discerning fans. Breakdancers and hulahoops girls provided visual entertainment to accentuate the lush ocean views. There was a NextAid had a booth set up raising money and awareness for their African relief efforts (see story here), Sponsored by up and coming record label Musicology, Armand Pena's set kicked things off at dusk Folllowed by behrouz bringing the party to a new high. It was great to see Armand Pena (one of last years second room djs) get a chance at the spotlight and his set was tight, bouncey and quite energetic.

I took a break and met friends on Lincoln Road for dinner. After one last taste of gelato, we went to the Rexhouse party at Yuca. Ohzee and da Butcha were spinning the tunes and the crowd was enjoying their tribal madness.

Another trip to Nikki Beach let me withness a bigger crowd enjoying the music of Seb Fontaine. Upstairs at Pearl there was some sexy house being spun as luminairies from Alex Gold to Andy Moor felt the vibe.
