WMC 2007 - Remix Hotel

It's amazing how days start later and later as the week goes by. It used to be everyone was fine until the night that Danny Tenaglia spun which signified the transition from human to walking zombie. Maybe I am getting older, but after the second day - I was already feeling it. Let's just say that making it to the Delano at 2:30 pm to interview David Guetta was an achievement that I was quite proud of.

This was a big day for David Guetta as well - with his major F**K Me I'm Famous taking over the Cameo (fka Crobar) for a massive Saturday night party. His PR person briefed me on current projects and the interview went swimmingly. David's charm came through loud an clear, and like Tom Novy before, he has different singles and albums in different markets at the same time. He told a story about a shared cab ride with Paul Oakenfold that led to him signing a major distribution/label deal. After the serious questions (watch for the interview to be posted in the next few weeks), I had to ask David where he got the fly lemon yellow Adidas track jacket he was wearing. His response, my wife found it for me. I don't usually buy clothing because a star wears it - but the terry clother track jacket is on the top of my list of things to be acquired.

Almost next door at the National, Remix Hotel had taken over the lobby, pool and outdoor area. Even burts of rain couldn't kill the party as Bad Boy Bill was spinning a massive set. I stopped by the different rooms to find out about upcoming products from Pioneer, Apple, and Serato (can't wait for their laptop video mixing software.) I watched two VJs spin mash up videos and was inspired by their ingenuity - using software and hardware for an amazing show. I could write 10 pages about the cool stuff I saw at Remix Hotel but let me just summarize by saying - having a credit card at Remix Hotel is not a good idea - I just wanted to buy everything.

Next up was Sexy Sounds at the Marlin. I knew this was going to be a fun party from up the block when I saw a crowd gathering outside. Maurice Joshua was spinning the tunes and the place was full of fun people. Joi Cardwell stepped onto stage and sang "What It Feels Like" which sounds better everytime I hear it. Joyce Sims sang her current single "What the World Needs Now" and then went old school singing her classics including "Come Into My Life." The crowd was singing along to every word. In addition to dance legends, new artists took the stage including Jean Davis who sang her forthcoming single with Maurice Joshay "So Amazing."

Improvisation was the name of the game with Emory, Charlotee Small and Mitch Matlock freestyling about the rain with a live keyboardist to the tracks being played. So much vocal power in such a small room!

International house superstar Barbara Tucker dropped some knowlege, encouraging us all to reach out and network, before singing her new single "Love Vibration." I cannot tell you how EXCITED I am for this song. Ever since I first heard her perform it in New York two years ago, I have been aching for its release. Then came "Most Precious Love." WMC is not WMC without seeing Barbara sing MPL at least once. The song is a modern day classic anthem and the crowd went nuts. Can you tell how much I love this song.

Barbara was quite excited to introduce Tyrone Ellis who performed his hit with Dennis Ferrer "Underground is My Home." Wow - Tyrone can really sing.
