Called "the dance music community's response to AIDS in Africa," NextAid is a 5 year old huminatarian organization that works with the electronic dance music community to build care centers in Africa for children orphaned by AIDS. Twelve events throughout the week including Om:Miami, Remix Hotel, Miambient, Massive Music Festival, and LemonAID will be part of NextAid's Party With A Purpose movement.
12. EMBRACE Miami / Future Mob
EMBRACE Miami and FutureMob bring a series of eleven events showcasing indie, electro and rock dance from revered labels such as Get Physical, Dirty Bird and Porterhouse as well as favorites Danny Howells, Pier Bucci, Simian Mobile Disco, James Zabiela, VNDLSM and Radio Slave. Legendary circuit DJ Julian Marsh makes a rare appearance Wednesday night at Halo Lounge in celebration of his hiNRG comeback compilation "T-Dance." Featuring all his own remixes, the CD has been a massive seller since release this year. Listen for him to debut his new remix of "God's Tryin' to Tell You Something," featuring the vocals of Jeannie Tracy and Pepper Mashay. Live performances by Amuka, Lauren Hildebrandt, Jacinta and Jenna Drey will make the night extra special as will opening sets by DJ Oren Nazri, Randy Bettis, JST and Maximus 3000.14. Flamingo Nights
No, not the tacky plastic toys you see on the lawns of the supergauche - the hottest Dutch electro label masterminded by the superstar producer DJ/Producer Fedde Le Grand. With DJ sets by Fedde, Martijn Ten Velden, Funkerman, Green Velvet and Patri La Funk as well as LIVE performances by the very fierce Camille Jones and MC Gee, Thursday night at Set will definitely be a highlight of WMC 2008.
15. Banana Split
The West Coast is in full effect with the electro/indie superstars Mstrkrft, DJ AM and Steve Aoki taking over Set on Thursday the 27th with the Banana Split party. Joining them will be LA Riots, Pase Rock, and Eli Escobar. If for some reason you can't get in on Thursday, DJ AM will be battling Steve Aoki on Friday at the Mansion with support from DJ's Fasherm Spider and Scene. Both nights are highly recommended for those in the know..
16. XM Broadcasting WMC on the Radio
Just in case you can't make it to Miami, tune in to XM (Move/BPM) for live broadcasts of the Ultra Music Festival and Juicy Beach. With their coverage of two of the best WMC parties, its no wonder XM was nominated for International Dance Music Awards as Best Radio Station.
17. And Let the Singer Be Heard
A highlight of WMC every year is "And Let the Singer Be Heard" where the voices of all of your favorite house anthems come together to share their songs in an almost religous celebration. Hosted by Barbara Tucker and Georgie Porgie, Club Yuca will host singers Tara McDonald, Terisa Griffin, Pepper Mashay, Dawn Tallman, Darryl Pandy, Darryl De Bonneau, Ron Carroll, Linda Hopkins, Joi Cardwell, Monique Bingham, Aaminah, Jason Walker, Amrick and DJs Terry Hunter, Luis Baro, and Kelly Marie on Tuesday from 9pm-5am.
18. GigCreator Remixes Reality
Industry networking site GigCreator is bringing together the stars of different reality shows - Wild N Out/Short Circuitz (Nick Cannon,) Real World (Shauvon Torres,) and Girlicious (Jamie and Ilisa) - for a red carpet soiree Wednesday night at Gem Nightclub. Throw in some hardworking dance artists (Georgie Porgie, Pepper MaShay, Jancita, and Rachel Panay) and mixshow DJs (Armando, Cato K, and Cubanito) - and you've got the Reality Remix.
19. Star 69
If you see a motorcycle ride by with a guy and a bull horn - that's Alan T celebrating the return of Star 69. Peter Rauhofer's tribal indie label is going to explode all over Miami with a major presence.
20. Propa/Impropa
Have to show some love for my Nashville homeboys, Sanchez and the Shockers! Samplers from DJ Rap's new Propa/Impropa Labels, will feature the dirty electro duo's track "Tonight" along with breakster Mark Campbell's "True Believe." A 2008 rerub of Rap's own "Good to Be Alive" ensure that this CD will be a treat for all those lucky enough to snag one.
