Originally from the Washington D.C. area; DJ Mike Pope has called Atlanta, Georgia his home for 11 years. Having had a deep appreciation of electronic music dating back to 1992, he eventually became inspired to channel this passion towards becoming a DJ. Mike recalls that he initially felt inspired to pursue his DJ aspirations after experiencing mezmorizing sets at the now defunct, Backstreet, along with sets by famed DJ’s Hex Hector, Chris Cox and Tony Moran over the years.
Mike's DJ career began in the summer of 2005 when he met DJ Greg Dean (WETbar) and DJ Kim Crawford. Mike spent many hours in the DJ booth at WETbar watching their techniques on how to mix and turn a dancefloor. After mixing a couple tracks in the Skybar at WETbar after that, it wouldn’t be until August of 2008 that Mike would have landed a headlining night in the main room at WETbar. Mike is no stranger to other high profile bars and clubs in Atlanta. He has spun at The Globe, Artistry, Sweet Devil Moon and Front Page News Midtown.
In February of 2008, Mike was approached by the Joining Hearts organization to spin at their First Annual ‘Love On The Rocks’ Valentine’s Day Event. The event was a huge success and provided him with the opportunity to open for superstar DJ Roland Belmares at the high profile outdoor circuit event, Joining Hearts 21, in July 2008. He also was the headlining DJ for their Patron & Sponsor Pool Party one week prior to the main event and now continues to be their resident DJ for all their events. Mike also DJ’d on their first Atlanta Pride float in July 2008 where he was featured atop the custom-designed float. In addition to Joining Hearts, Mike has provided beats for various parties for the Atlanta Cotillion and P.A.L.S. Atlanta (all beneficiaries of AID Atlanta). After a fun retro tea dance at Amsterdam Cafe in Atlanta this past April 5th to benefit Joining Hearts, the tea dance called "Change of Seasons" marks a change in his booking schedule as well. It's off to Birmingham, AL to man the turntables at the Rites Of Spring After Party on April 18th at a club called the Lakeview Yacht Club. Future gigs include a return appearance at this year's mega-event, Joining Hearts 22, where he will once again warm up the crowd before Roland Belmares takes over the booth.
It is no wonder that DJ Mike Pope is on his way as Atlanta's premier DJ and crowd favorite. Mike describes his style as a fusion of high energy and soulful house music. He enjoys blending Top 40 vocal house mixes with sexy dance floor anthems that speaks to the crowd and makes people want to dance.
