Emmerald: What other projects are you working on? Any remixes being picked up by the labels? Your remix of Jody Wately’s “Essence” was featured on that single on the FiveSix label. Much respect for that one.
G.B.: The catalogue is small but definitely growing. On Sound In Color, my first release was a tune on a limited white label with Exile, MainFrame and Platonic in 2003. The label also released a compilation last year called "MU.SIC" on which I had a few tracks. I also have two bonus beats on the Orange 12" for the compilation. On the remix tip, the only official remix releases I have out were for Wildchild's "Youzafiend" (Stronghouse Records) and Jody Watley's "The Essence" (FiveSixRecordings), but I've done something like 50 unofficial remixes that will probably stay in the vaults. I'm looking forward to doing more remixes as soon as the opportunities arise. In the meantime, my priority is getting my LP out. The first single, which features Steve Spacek plus a remix from SA-RA creative partners, will be out this month, and the full length is due out later this summer.

Emmerald: Tell me about the Sound in Color label. There are quite a few artists on the roster. Are they all L.A. locals? What's next for the label and who's the driving force behind it?
G.B.: Sound In Color is a young label based out of Long Beach/Los Angeles. MainFrame is the cat who came up with the entire concept of the label and rounded up the artists to get down with it. It is a really exciting concept because the majority of the artists down with the label are relatively young, and with MainFrame being only 22 years old now, we vibed hard on the music with the understanding that young cats have historically been the ones to change things through mass movements. Also, I'm a big fan of MainFrame's beats, and I firmly believe that we as artists are the ones who should be in full control of the music we put out. Of course, the executive team has grown since, and MainFrame is fortunately able to reroute his focus back to the music. Platonic is also a driving force behind the label as he not only makes music but also manages the label. As for the other artists down with S.I.C., most are from all over California, from the bay area to San Diego, but Teck Another, for example, is originally from Japan, so the roster is spread out.
