RS: So you're a DJ, you're a producer, you're everything.
As a producer, what software do you use when you're in the studio?
Mark Lewis: Well currently I'm using Logic 7 but I work with many
different producers, so it could be ProTools or it could be, you know,
Cubase VXT or a digital performer who likes to keep versatile and work
with many people. And each software has its own signature, like
synths and plug-ins, and it's always nice just to keep evolving with
what's out there.
RS: What advice to you have out there for other people who want
to start promoting events and finding events?
Mark Lewis: Really have and end result for the game plan rather than
just thinking about it being one night. You could plan one event and
spend a lot of money and if it's not successful, you're thinking
'well, how am I going to make that money back.' Or is it an
investment, is it something that you really want to do, and if you're
doing the events what do the events represent? Are you trying to
launch something out of the events other than trying to do an event
because you want to DJ at it. So, do your homework, try to work with
other people and get other people involved. Create alliances because
you really need to have great infrastructure, you know, PR and
promotions, marketing, a budget, and the whole gamut. And try to find
the right location and the right sound, the right DJs that you want to
use. I mean it's a thought-out game plan. So if you feel you want to
do it, just do the homework.
RS: And what DJs tonight are you most looking forward to hearing?
Mark Lewis: I'm really looking forward to hearing Darren and Seb. I
was at that Perfecto party at Crobar, and I went up to the underwater
room where Darren was playing, he was just playing some really wicked,
twisted stuff. And, you know, the two are very close friends. And
Morales as well, they all play at Pachas so I think they all kind of
give it a nice clubby vibe. I'm quite interested to see how Bennie
will play the a.m. set after Seb. Collette played a great set, I
think. Rap's getting ready to go on now, and a good industry buzz is
happening with these types of DJs and hopefully we'll just keep
evolving and keep doing our parties here on Nikki Beach.
