DJ Isaac McCalla Bio

From Isaac McCalla, for About.com

Experience: I got my start DJing in 1992 at the Fabulous 40 Watt Club in Athens Ga. I've been spinning every week since then in Athens, currently at Boneshakers 2.0. In addition to playing in Athens I've had a 3 year residency at Tongue & Groove in Atlanta, GA...and various other places for special events.

Education: I graduated from the University of Georgia in 1992 with a Bachelor's degree- my major was English and my minor was philosophy.

Other related info: I've written for Flagpole magazine in Athens GA, reviewing electronic music in the early/mid 90's. I began a small home studio in the early 90's, mastering music for various local bands. I also used the studio to do sound for film and television. I've been a drummer since age 5 and played in a slew of bands before switching over to spinning music in clubs.

Style: I'm a big fan of all types of music, but when I spin I prefer house, progressive and trance. Also, I enjoy playing retro music, particularly 80's new wave. I keep the styles separate, doing the retro thing on Wednesday nights and the hi-energy trip on Saturdays. The first electronic song I heard and played to death (in my bedroom) was "Computer Games" by the Yellow Magic Orchestra. One of the first things I look for in a record in a good beat and bassline. I subscribe to the theory that less is more and like to keep it simple.

Well, that's the basics. I hope you find my reviews helpful and maybe even fun to read! It's time to press play- enjoy your equipment, enjoy the music!!
