John ArnoldInside (Ubiquity)—Sit up and pay attention, Ubiquity spent all last year securing a highly visible spot on the radar screen with some top quality releases that while not necessarily splashes, made some respectable waves. Looks like this stateside label is pulling out all the stops this year with John Arnold’s “Inside”. This has got to be one of the most infectiously danceable tunes I’ve heard. Mr. Scruff’s remix rips it with a dirty bassline kissing gospel-touched vocals by Detroit’s Malik Alston. Henrick Schwartz goes in a totally different direction taking the tune to topical island sounds just before delving deep into an Afro-electro vibe. The real clincher here is the breakdown; acidic keys take over complementing Malik’s soaring vocals.
