RS: Is it harder for you to do a remix by yourself than when you
work with Sharam?
Ali Dubfire: It's actually easier for me because there's not two
cooks in the kitchen. At the end of the day, you make the final
decision on whether something stays or goes.
RS: Is it hard to work with your own vocal, like when you sang
on "I Feel Speed?"
Ali Dubfire: No. That was an experiment and the first project I
did in my new home studio, so I had all the time in the world to do
it. We just got a really great small, state of the art setup and I
played it for some friends and they couldn't believe it was my voice.
So I guess that was a compliment and I decided to just carry on and
maybe do other tracks with me singing.
RS: I heard you also have a new label coming, what's that called?
Ali Dubfire: The long name is Science and Technology Digital Audio
and the shorthand is Sytec. It's basically a digital-only label and
that reflects the current trend where CDs and vinyl are not really
being utilized these days. I haven't actually released anything yet,
but the first release will be the "I Feel Speed" song and I've just
got a Booka Shade remix that's going to come out as well.
RS: Cool. You're also doing some solo touring without Sharam.
Ali Dubfire: We've been playing together and quite a bit apart for
many years now and this is just a bit more concentrated. I'm able to
control the night musically one hundred percent myself so it's, again,
very liberating.
RS: Tell us about the big White Party Bal en Blanc that you
are doing in Canada.
Ali Dubfire: I'm doing that with Sharam, it's like the fifth or
sixth year that we're doing it and we always have this set time of 8
a.m. to noon which a crazy set time. It's like twenty thousand people
all dressed in white and it's just a mad party. They ask us every
year to do it and they take it very seriously and so do we. We're just
glad to be a part of it.
RS: What would you say your favorite track of the Conference is?
Ali Dubfire: That's a good one, I don't know yet. I'll know I think
by Saturday.
RS: What would you like to say to all your fans out there?
Ali Dubfire: Thanks for all the support and I'll see you soon at
your local club.
